Politically correct version of “Kolobok”.
Once upon a time there lived older adults who were in a complicated financial situation and had nothing at all. They kept getting more low-income until there was nothing left to eat in the house. Then an old citizen told his wife, “Do bake us a bun, older adult! If you scrape out the flour-box and sweep out the bin, you’ll have enough flour.” So the older adult scraped out the flour-box and swept out the bin. She made some dough, and she shaped a little round bun out of it. She then lit the oven, baked the bun and put it on the windowsill to cool. But the bun (pronoun “they”) jumped out of the window and onto the bench outside, and from the bench onto the ground, and away it rolled along the road!
I can’t say that this year was easy, but still, there were enough outstanding events and good people I managed to meet. January. I was studying a lot, preparing for winter exams, especially lexicology and theoretical phonetics… that was hard. 2. February Terrible news, pain, everyday stress from this news…
Individual Reading Report
This semester I read “I am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai, co-authored with Christina Lamb, and I want to share my impressions about this book. The book touches on many important topics: women’s rights, the power of education, Islam and its interpretations, fame, the ability to speak your mind even when no…
My Political Personality
In general, I wasn’t surprised to see the result of the test, because I usually prefer to stay away from publicly campaign and choose to do little actions myself. I tend to observation of the events and it takes some time for me to analyze them and to come to my own conclusion. The fact that I’m 81% Democrat made me a little anxious, as I thought that Republicans’ philosophy is closer to me… It was hard to answer the questions of the test as an American person, because I have never been to the USA and it was hard even to imagine myself an American. Anyway, now I know myself a bit better and I’m looking forward to learning more about differences between two parties. Who knows, maybe my position will change over time again.
“You cannot be a hero without being a coward.” — George Bernard Shaw I think there’s definitely an element of truth in this quote, as all people, all human beings experience fear and many other feelings every day. Fear is a mechanism that helped primitive man to survive and evolve…
Individual Reading: Vocabulary
Hello! I’m reading an autobiographical book “I’m Malala” about an ordinary Pakistanian girl and her tough life path. This book makes me think a lot and appreciate things that I have in my life now, but I will talk about my impressions later. Now I would like to share some new words from this book: Pious-devoutly religious Blasphemy-the action or offence of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk
The Iconic Picture
Hello! My name is Michelle, I’m 7 and I’m from France, but in the new country I’ll probably be called Michael. We finally make it! We crossed the ocean! We’re completely exhausted after such a long trip, but very delighted. My parents were really poor in France, we lost all our relatives because of plague and we had nothing to lose there, so my parents decided to start a new life here… Of course I’ll miss my home country but I feel extremely excited to live in America. I think everything will be different here: new friends, new nature, new food, new climate. I don’t know what will my parents do for a living, but I’m sure we’ll be happy and successful here.
